The story...

The Skyrta website is one of m2imagework's most complicated projects to date. The site's owner, Flex Japan co. ltd. is one of Japan's largest OEM manufacturers of men's and women's dress shirts and they needed a way to fit their previously paper only order workflow into an easy to use online site. While it's one thing to sell t-shirts or other simple clothing online, it's a completely different matter when every aspect of the clothing can be customized and selected by the customer. Then you've got to figure in the production chain and find a way to allow the factory to update their parts inventory and stock quickly and easily as well as tracking orders throughout the process. Let's not forget its gotta look great and be a very responsive site too.

We chose ExpressionEngine for its versatility and the capability to code the website to do whatever we needed. We then added in controls for user management to allow group or member discounts and we chose CartThrob for handling the online store sessions and cart flow. After that it was a lot of logical coding to fit all the requirements of building a shirt online. For example, if you chose a short sleeve shirt, then you shouldn't be able to pick long sleeve cuffs. So every item has sub items and each one has its own restrictions and options. All these things come together in a way that makes it easy for the customer to order. In short, ExpressionEngine helped us to quickly be able to deploy a site that will dynamically change based on what the customer chooses and the capabilities of the CartThrob shopping system lets us build up prices and place orders that fit Skyrta's unique requirements.

Furthermore, each item section has its own backend form so that the factory can update things like fabric availability at a moments notice. A full suite of reports are also available to monitor the site's order flow and membership information. We also turned to the Media Temple ProCDN to aid in site caching and worldwide availabilty.
